Introducing Melia Dicker

by Melia | Director of Client Success

Hello! I’m Melia Dicker. Some of you may know me as Darren’s wife, or as his co-founder at Creative Distillery. I’d like to introduce myself to some of you, and get reacquainted with those I worked with when I was on the team the first time around.

A Range of Experience

When I relocated from my native California to Jackson, I co-founded Creative Distillery with Darren and then made a career shift after our son, Evan, was born. I went to work for two large state agencies and an education foundation, where I gained a variety of valuable experience: developing digital marketing and public relations strategies, managing a large-scale social media following, and working on big-budget advertising campaigns that included email marketing, video production, and cross-platform media buying. I also had a chance to sit on the client’s side of the table, which helped me understand how Creative Distillery’s clients experience working with us. I’m excited to bring the skills I’ve gained back to the agency where my career in marketing started, so we can serve our clients even better.

A New Role — Director of Client Success

Our main focus at Creative Distillery has always been to create work that delights you and helps achieve your goals. Darren and I created a new position for me, the Director of Client Success, to focus exclusively on making sure we’re moving the needle for you. I’ll be your main point of contact, guiding your projects from intake to completion and monitoring your results (sales, social media engagement, web traffic, and so on). As I return to Creative Distillery, I’m most excited about making a positive impact in many different arenas through marketing. We work with organizations and businesses in fields as diverse as health care, manufacturing, and government, and it’s incredibly rewarding to help you leave your corner of the world better than we found it.

You can reach me at melia@creativedistillery.com. I look forward to meeting with you soon and creating beautiful, powerful work together.

3 Successful Nonprofit Marketing Campaigns

by Darren Schwindaman | Principal / Designer

UProot

Convened by the Mississippi State Department of Health, UProot is an unprecedented collaboration between government, nonprofit, educational, and private organizations looking to create a culture of health in Mississippi.

We were charged with creating a name and visual brand for the campaign, which is based on the results of an academic survey that was conducted around Mississippi’s perceptions of health. The challenge was to create something that wasn’t too academic or like just another government program, and spoke to making a dramatic improvement without dwelling on the negative.

Read more about our process for creating UProot.

Little Light of Mine

In the past, we’ve created a successful website for Methodist Children’s Homes of Mississippi that has seen online donations go from $300/year to over $25,000 per year. The majority of the organization’s funding came from apportionment, a line item in the budget of the Mississippi Methodist Church.

Beginning in 2016, the organization would be funded by Special Offering, a single day when all the Methodist Churches in the state take up a collection for Methodist Children’s Homes of Mississippi. The move carried the potential for reward in greater funding than had been budgeted, but also carried risk: each churchgoer was not used to donating directly to the organization, and would have to be introduced to the mission. MCHMS approached Creative Distillery to help create a campaign introducing the change.

Read more about how the Little Light of Mine campaign exceeded expectations.

XOut With Love

We’re currently in progress on a campaign for My Brother’s Keeper, Inc., targeting a population that is high-risk for HIV infection. The campaign will recruit qualified participants for a study that will yield data specific to this population in the deep South.

The dedicated group conducting the study has given great insight into the target audience and allowed us to create something that will invite the participants to feel comfortable sharing personal information. The identity also creates a movement that will create impact beyond the study.

Nonprofit campaigns allow us to be creatively successful while advancing positive change. Contact us to talk about your nonprofit and let’s strategize together.
